Michigan Democratic leaders held a press conference Wednesday at which they declared their state’s presidential primary next Tuesday as a “historic step” at braking the overriding influence that the “first-in-the-nation” Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary long have held in choosing the parties’ White House nominees.
