U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today released the following statements by former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz and former National Security Advisor Richard Allen on John McCain's courage, judgment and experience that uniquely qualify him for the presidency.
George P. Shultz, who served as the 60th U.S. Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan from 1982 to 1989, today issued the following statement:
"The next President of the United States must be prepared from day one of assuming the office to address the many complex national security issues that confront the United States and our allies. I can think of no candidate who is more prepared for this extraordinary challenge than John McCain. Back during the days of the Reagan Administration, John was a strong ally in our efforts to strengthen America's defenses, promote freedom and undermine communist dictatorships across the globe. He emerged as a leader on national security issues who displayed a profound and first-hand understanding of the world. Today, we are engaged in a struggle with Islamist extremism and we must have a Commander in Chief who needs no on-the-job training. It is my honor to support John McCain, a man of unwavering convictions who will lead America with integrity, strength and courage."
Richard V. Allen, who served as President Ronald Reagan's first National Security Advisor from 1981 to 1982, today issued the following statement:
"We live in dangerous times and face unprecedented and unconventional national security challenges. How shall we deal with conflicts in The Middle East, an increasingly hostile Russia, a rising China, Islamic extremism and terrorism? To meet challenges of this magnitude, we need a seasoned leader with extensive first-hand experience. John McCain is that leader.
"I had the honor to work closely with Ronald Reagan for more than three years prior to his election, and the honor to serve him when he was President. I have been in the Oval Office in times of crisis and when tough policy choices had to be made. I have witnessed real presidential leadership in action, and know that John McCain is the candidate who has the essential leadership qualities to secure America's future. He knows what it is like to be in the cockpit, and will be on the job from Day One to deal with these unprecedented dangers.
"For twenty-two years John McCain has served his country honorably and faithfully, displaying his courage while in uniform, suffering the very real hardships of a prisoner of war and providing staunch support for President Reagan's foreign policy and national security objectives, never wavering in his support for the President's determination to end and win the Cold War. The decades of John McCain's first-hand experience and leadership cannot be acquired with on-the-job training and briefings by advisors; it can only be learned by determined study and perseverance.
"It is my honor to support John McCain in 2008 as the person with the courage, conviction and experience to lead this country from the first day of his presidency."

Blogs for Duncan Hunter
GFP Note: The Georgia Front Page has a separate blog set up for Duncan Hunter. We contacted his campaign early in the cycle (along with all others) and volunteered to set up a blog on the Georgia Front Page for them. Hunter responded.
Like many, most of our staff can't understand why Hunter isn't getting more notice. Many say it is a lack of money. However, if he's not being mentioned in the media, if they don't give him time during the debates, then how is he to get on the general public's radar screen? How will he be able to collect money?
We have decided that at we will be posting links to other blogs that reference Duncan Hunter on this blog / column. If you'd like to see Hunter's press releases and campaign materials, look to the right for a link to our blog for Duncan Hunter.

MITT ROMNEY'S IN GOOD COMPANY
The Concord Monitor Attacked Ronald Reagan, George Bush In 1980
"[The] Monitor endorses the candidacy of John B. Anderson… He has proposed a 50-cent-a-gallon tax on gasoline… He favors both the Equal Rights Amendment and the windfall profits tax on the major oil companies." (Editorial, "For The GOP: Anderson," Concord Monitor, 2/21/80)
The Concord Monitor Editorial Board Recently Personally Attacked Gov. Romney:
UPI Headline: "Liberal N.H. Newspaper Slams Romney." "Romney campaign spokesman Kevin Madden told CNN the criticisms were taken in stride. 'The Monitor's editorial board is regarded as a liberal one on many issues, so it is not surprising that they would criticize Governor Romney for his conservative views and platform,' Madden said." ("Liberal N.H. Newspaper Slams Romney," United Press International, 12/24/07)
FLASHBACK: The Concord Monitor Endorsed Moderate John Anderson In The 1980 GOP Primary:
The Monitor Praised Anderson For His Liberal Positions.
FLASHBACK: The Concord Monitor Personally Attacked Ronald Reagan In 1980:
The Monitor Attacked Reagan's Ability And Capacity. "Ronald Reagan – The former California governor is simply too old (69), too doctrinaire, too inexperienced in the intricacies of the federal government. We gravely question his capability to withstand the daily physical and emotional battering that the nation's chief executive must endure." (Editorial, "For The GOP: Anderson," Concord Monitor, 2/21/80)
The Monitor Attacked Reagan For Supporting "A 19th Century Economic Philosophy." "Reagan espouses a 19th century economic philosophy shared by less than one-third of the national electorate. He opposes the Equal Rights Amendment, President Carter's embargo on grain shipments to the Soviet Union, the proposed windfall profits tax on major oil companies, implementation of the Panama Canal treaties, and he has favored simultaneously additional defense spending and a tax cut." (Editorial, "For The GOP: Anderson," Concord Monitor, 2/21/80)
The Monitor Claimed Reagan Was "On The Side-Lines Of Contemporary American Thought." "Though personable, [Reagan] is on the side-lines of contemporary American thought, and he could not win a national election if he won the GOP nomination." (Editorial, "For The GOP: Anderson," Concord Monitor, 2/21/80)
FLASHBACK: The Concord Monitor Also Attacked George H.W. Bush:
The Monitor Attacked Bush For Having Most Of The Same Conservative Beliefs As Reagan, Like Cutting Taxes And Increasing Defense Spending. "George Bush – The former director of the CIA, two-term congressman from Texas in the 1960s, onetime Republican national chairman and first U.S. envoy to mainland China has both magnetic appeal and organizational and leadership talents. He is widely regarded as a moderate. He is not. He shares most of Reagan's political beliefs, his stand on the ERA being one of the notable exceptions. He also favors a tax cut and an increase in defense spending at the same time." (Editorial, "For The GOP: Anderson," Concord Monitor, 2/21/80)
The Monitor Claimed That Bush's Positions Needed Far More Scrutiny. "Bush's articulation of his positions on major issues is fuzzy and sometimes evasive. He can mesmerize an audience, seeming to say much while actually saying little. Bush has campaigned for the GOP nomination, mostly in New Hampshire, for more than 20 months. Despite this, he needs additional scrutiny." (Editorial, "For The GOP: Anderson," Concord Monitor, 2/21/80)
The Monitor Questioned Bush's Credentials. "Bush's highly-vaunted Washington experience is more noteworthy for its breadth than for its depth. He is a shiny new political phenomenon, following the Iowa caucuses, and we want to hear from him a fuller articulation of his positions on a broad range of national issues. We hope he survives the New Hampshire primary and submits his thinking to more searching examination in the primaries to come." (Editorial, "For The GOP: Anderson," Concord Monitor, 2/21/80)

STATEMENT BY MCCAIN SENIOR ADVISOR MARK SALTER ON MITT ROMNEY'S ATTACKS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE TODAY
John McCain 2008 Senior Advisor Mark Salter today (12/23/07) issued the following statement:
"Welcome to Mitt Romney's bizarro world, in which everyone is guilty of his sins. He didn't support Ronald Reagan. He didn't support President Bush's tax cuts. He raised taxes in Massachusetts by $700 million. He knows John McCain is gaining on him so he does what any small varmint gun totin,' civil rights marching, NRA endorsed fantasy candidate would do: he questions someone else's credibility. New Hampshire is on to you, Mitt. Give it a rest. It's Christmas."
