Congressman Ron Paul Endorses Young Americans for Liberty

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Texas Congressman and former presidential candidate Ron Paul announced today his endorsement of a new youth organization, Young Americans for Liberty (YAL).

YAL is a youth-based activist organization that will continue the work of its predecessor, Students for Ron Paul. During the presidential campaign, Students for Ron Paul established over 500 college and high school chapters across all 50 states and recruited more than 26,000 students.

Paul recalled the thousands of young people attracted to the college rallies during his 2008 presidential campaign, saying, "It is these young men and women who will become tomorrow's champions of liberty. That's why I am giving my enthusiastic endorsement to Young Americans for Liberty."

YAL intends to launch this youth campaign next semester and re-energize the youth movement inspired by Paul. Paul compared YAL to the youth organization Young Americans for Freedom which started around another anti-establishment presidential candidate, Barry Goldwater, and helped fuel the rise of Ronald Reagan.

"The importance of YAL to the future of liberty cannot be overstated," said Paul.

Libertarian Party Commends Paul for Opening 'Doors for Liberty'

Following the close of Ron Paul's presidential campaign, the Libertarian Party thanked Paul for all that he had done for liberty in his presidential bid. "Paul fought an uphill battle for liberty every day in his presidential campaign against all of the big-government juggernauts of the Republican Party," says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis.

"Paul opened many doors for liberty in this nation through his presidential campaign," Davis continued. "By that standard--of which all politicians should be judged--he won a bigger victory than John McCain or Barack Obama ever will. Ron Paul worked to empower the people, not the government. That is a rare trait in today's political world."

Paul was the Libertarian Party's presidential candidate in 1988, and remains a lifetime member of the Libertarian Party.

"Congressman Ron Paul has fought tirelessly in both the Libertarian Party and the Republican Party to minimize government power and maximize individual liberty," says Libertarian Party presidential candidate and former Congressman Bob Barr. "I want to thank him for all that he has done for liberty in this nation, and encourage him to continue his fight through whatever avenues he sees fit."

The Libertarian Party named Barr as its presidential candidate at its National Convention last month. Barr worked closely with Paul on many issues in Congress, and still maintains a good relationship with the Congressman to this day.

"He's saying the things that he should be saying," Paul said of Barr during a CNN interview on Thursday. "He talks our language. So I do really believe that he can have a very positive effect in this campaign, and let the people know that limited government is a very, very important message and the people will have a chance, and that gives them--you know--everybody a choice in the matter."

The Libertarian Party plans to be on the ballot in at least 48 states in Nov.

Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul has released a new television ad – titled “Defender of Freedom” – that will run in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Dr. Paul Issues Statement in Support of State ‘Right to Life’ Amendments

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul, an OB/GYN who has delivered over 4,000 babies, issued the following statement in support of state efforts to pass "Right to Life" amendments:

"The right of an innocent, unborn child to life is at the heart of the American ideals of liberty. My professional and legislative record demonstrates my strong commitment to this pro-life principle.

"Under our Constitution, the states have the duty to protect citizens against murder, and protecting the unborn from having their right to life violated is no exception.

"I find it unconscionable that the Supreme Court overrules states when they pass pro-life legislation. As president, I will fight to end this judicial tyranny.

"Many talk about being pro-life. In Congress, I am the lead sponsor of HR 2597 the ‘Sanctity of Life Act’ and a similar bill, HR 300 the ‘We the People Act.’ Both bills would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation that protects life. My bills could pass by a simple majority vote and allow states such as Michigan and South Carolina to end abortion immediately.
